Therapy sessions are a safe place to process life. Therapy is a unique and personal experience, so it differs for every client. Sessions are a great environment to discuss any conflicts that you are struggling with, talk about previous experiences that you haven’t felt comfortable sharing with others, or any number of other reasons that may bring you into the therapy room. So often couples are surprised with how natural it feels after a couple of sessions.

Therapy is considered confidential and is covered by the HIPAA privacy act, meaning that anything discussed in session is considered confidential with the exception of suicidal or homicidal intent and plan. For any virtual sessions, I use a platform that has secure video capabilities.

Every therapy experience is unique to the individual. If you are working on a specific goal, you might feel comfortable with your progress after three-six months. For more complex needs, you may see better progress after six months or more. According to research, many individual clients indicate that they begin to feel better around their eighth session; for couples, this varies more. Research indicates that around sessions 15 - 20, couples begin to notice a positive change in how they interact at home. As an EFT therapist I use a map that guides us on our couples work. A client is free to end therapy when they feel ready. Clients are also welcome to return to therapy for “maintenance” style sessions when needed.
